GETTING READY FOR SPRING (and of course BASEBALL and 2010 PHILLIES!)

Posted by wxrisk | General,VA WEEKEND WEATHER | Tuesday 9 March 2010 10:25 AM

As we convert over from winter and to the Spring 2010 season and get ready for the Spring agricultural growing season which is always a big point of celebration here at WXRISK — along a course with the greatest game ever invented the start of the baseball season… there are still lots of things to talk about.

First I should have a new addition to Virginia weather off later on today or tonight. You have to check back later and see what you think and of course pass along some comments to me.

If you’ve noticed is also some interesting information about Europe on the European weather Blog… so if you are so inclined please take a look at that. Yes I do quite a bit of European weather forecasting and one of the reasons is that many meteorologists in the energy business do not do a lot of European forecasting and are not very experienced at. Since I used to do it when I was in the Navy… I kind of have a little bit of experience jump here.

Also if you are so inclined  take a look at this image below and you will see some very impressive sea surface temperature anomalies in the tropical Atlantic region. There is also a band of very cold water   running from the Gulf of Mexico through and around Florida    and off the southeast coast into the North Central Atlantic.     I am sure that to some degree this has to do with the active stormy pattern of the past winter which is featured a number of systems have moved off the SE coast and into the west Atlantic ocean after pounding to bejesus out of the middle Atlantic states and leaving New England for the most part untouched.

The warm water can partially be explained by the El Niño. This seems to be some sort of correlation between moderate and strong El Niño’s during the winter months and above normal SSTAs in the tropical Atlantic. However this appears to be much warmer than anything seen recently and it actually exceeds that of March 2005.

Speaking of the 2005 hurricane season in case you   missed  this story…    there are a bunch of idiots from New Orleans who are actually suing energy companies for Katrina damages pain and suffering. Their argument is that global warming brought on by the energy companies… directly contributed to the development of Katrina.   Apparently these morons believe that until 2005 there were never any strong hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico Caribbean basin or in the southwest Atlantic.

Hey DT: Sure looks like an early start to the Cape Verde Hurricane season may be in store this year, as the temps in the Eastern Atlantic have a jump start…..This Hurricane season may rival the snowy Mid Atlantic Winter for headlines….

I blame AlGore and the IPCC…….lol

“The class action suit brought by residents from southern Mississippi…”

Hmmmm. Not too many Obama voters down there. Probably some of Haley Barbour’s hangers on.

you really cant be this stupid…. listen you REALLY think the 3 folks involved in this lawsuit are conservatives… who generally are VEEEEERY skeptical about AGW… then you go right ahead and think that dimwit

From what I can put together, there seems to be a consensus building for an active hurricane season. Many have mentioned a relatively persistent trough over the eastern part of the country for most of the summer. Cool and wet? Higher than normal East Coast threats?

LOL. I almost rolled on the floor. Problem with a lot of the people in New Orleans after Katrina was that they thought their “help” would come in their mailbox!

Oh good lord. Can we maybe skip politicizing the freaking weather? I like the sticking with cause and effect I’ve seen throughout the winter drama. A shame that you do such great homework on the weather but not on what the pols are actually saying and doing. OH well. Thanks for all your hard work, and … goodbye. You’ve lost me.

let me see if I have this right ? The 3 people who are suing energy companies for Hurricane Katerina in 2005… are basing their claim on the idea that there were no killer Hurricanes in the US until global warming showed up… and you think I am the one politcizing weather ?

how is talking about bad science = politicizing weather … ?

dont the door hit on the way out ….

this law suit is crazy and they dont have a leg to stand on, they were told to get out, they didnt oh well…..so sad. And what about allll the other hurricanes? so your gonna tell me they were caused by this too? haha…funny…..New Orleans needs to be thankful they still have a state and shut up, they dooo sound like obama supporters!!

  7. Comment by Denise — March 10, 2010 @ 8:06 AM

LOL!!!!! Dave, I love your comment back to Tina!! Hey Tina, what are the pols saying and doing? This article about the lawsuit is about weather and this site is about weather. Perfectly appropriate to reference it here. And thank you Dave for pointing it out, I will enjoy reading it. Bart and Tina, it’s obvious what you’re really upset about. Obama was referenced negatively and GOD FORBID WE TALK ABOUT OBAMA. YOU HAVE TO WHISPER IF YOU SAY ANYTHING NEGATIVE ABOUT HIM!!!

I heard about you this winter, and have truly enjoyed your in-depth forecasts. I am looking forward to the details during the huuricane season, as well. BUT, please, can we leave out the politics? That Obama supporter comment left me cold. You are, otherwise, a breath of fresh air. Thanks for sharing all of your research!

What about a snow storm near the 21st. I think this is a bunch of BS. We are done with snow for this season. It was a great season for snow so hopefully we have something simillar next season. BRING ON SPRING & SUMMER

snowstorm on the 21st? what is THAT about ? Not going to to happen .. NOT in VA

how is talking about bad science = politicizing weather … ?

simple – you brought Obama’s name into it. you don’t even realize what it is you do…you just spew out insults.

the use of Mr Obama’s name is tangential .
MY aassertion is correct: Most liberals are far more willing to accept AGW as fact than conservatives.
This does not mean Liberals are EVIL or wrong.
It does not mean conservatives are EVIL or wrong.

Since you cannot disprove that assertion — or even offer the slightest bit of evidence you are now banned from here.
I have No problem with you disagreeing with me but if you cannot support your claims I will slap you down hard.

  12. Comment by HarryL — March 10, 2010 @ 5:42 PM

Most liberals and AGW ALARMISTS try to distance their Globull-warming theory from politics. What they fail to see is the very organization that sponsers AGW is the UN/IPCC.How political can you get for crying outloud!!!

  13. Comment by wxrisk — March 10, 2010 @ 5:54 PM

OK OK …I should of said my point differently… I got that…. I wont do THAT again
But again I STILL see no evidence that my assertion is wrong

  14. Comment by tom c — March 10, 2010 @ 7:52 PM

how to annoy a conservative…be nice. I really liked your site but even here you’d rather argue about politics.Just another wearying example of the sad state of politics in this country. After your last forecast its clear you don’t have all the answers so why not open your mind up just a little bit. No need to reply I came to this site to learn about the weather, I guess that was to much to hope for in this day and age.

  15. Comment by Denise — March 10, 2010 @ 8:28 PM

I’ll say it again. You just can’t say anything negative about Obama, even though I realize that article was not about him, so what, it’s like Dave said, it was tangential. That’s what this is really all about. This is free speech. Why do we have to tip toe around the subject of Obama?

  16. Comment by Denise — March 11, 2010 @ 1:45 PM

how to annoy a liberal. . . . use facts and logic

  17. Comment by HarryL — March 11, 2010 @ 5:06 PM

Liberals also have a difficult time thinking for themselves and bow down to the elitest establishment.

  18. Comment by wxrisk — March 11, 2010 @ 7:03 PM

First of all I am NOT in anyway a conservative.
second I am not arguing politics at all. I am simply stating a Fact.
Liberals and conservatives haver …in general… very different ideas about the validity of AGW.
However if you think this lawsuit is rational and has merit…
which is premised on the idea that before recent global warminng there were no killer Hurricanes that HIT the USA… the problme isnt me.

  19. Comment by HarryL — March 12, 2010 @ 8:11 AM

Dave, there is nothing rational about AGW.It’s a THEORY based on computer models that produce a outcome that is manipulated to provide a pre-existing scenario.
Let’s not dismiss the fact that most of the scientific data used to support AGW is HIGHLY suspect and flawed.
If one takes the blinders off and sees the political and monetary methods behind this madness,it’s not hard to see AGW for what it is.And that it’s part and parcel of an Elitest one world government agenda.

this post of yours is way over the top.
If AGW theroy is wrong its NOT a vast one world govt consipracy.
Its Just bad science. Far right wingers like YOu dont get that.
    Sometimes science is WRONG.
Now perhaps you mean that others are using AGW for their political purposes?

that Maybe so… that does NOT mean AGW is irrational.

  20. Comment by Hugh E. — March 12, 2010 @ 2:09 PM

Yeah, that’s a very petty lawsuit and it will very likely be thrown out because of its lack of merrit. However, I think it was very bad for your business to insult HALF or more of your customer base by inferring that people who support President Obama are idiots or that only idiots could support President Obama (whichever way you want to spin that.)

You have a great site here, and I think you guys do an awesome job. Please don’t sully it by making unprofessional statements and insulting your users.

Goood post but I did NOT come close to saying …. inferring that people who support President Obama are idiots or that only idiots could support President Obama … are you drunk or unable to think criticallty
My comment was ONLY about the idiots in the lawsuits . Nothing else.
Nice try through. Have YOU ever thought about getting a Job at Fox news? ?

  21. Comment by HarryL — March 13, 2010 @ 8:56 AM

Dave you are right on about others using AGW for political puposes,i.e.Al Gore. But to lable me as a far right winger is unfair. One only has to look at the ONE WORLD references toward world currency and world governments By Obama and many world leaders to see that it is indeed a fact.
Again I stated before that the AGW THEORY is supported and sponsered by the UN,which is progressively pushing it’s ONE WORLD government agenda. You don’t have to be far right to see this.
