Welcome to the WxRisk Snowstorm page
My purpose here is engage in the art and science of medium range and extended range forecasting for early detection significant of winter weather There are of course a lot of different weather sources that one can use to obtain weather information about impending winter weather. But on this page we are going to do something more than that. We will endeavor to inform and educate because an informed public and a smart consumer of weather information can tell the difference between bullshit and accurate weather forecasts. As with all WxRisk.com products you will see NO fake weather related stories ( known as " click bait"). One of the purposes of this website in general ...and this page in particular is to "FRONT RUN" weather information that you wont see on most other places. By that I mean you see and read information here at WxRisk is something that most others meteorologists will probably be talking about over the next several days but as of right now ... no one else is. In other words... what I am saying here is NOT part of the conventional or consensus forecast.

First lets define our terms. This first image refers to the specific geographical regions that WxRisk will be using on the Snowstorm page and in the SNOWSTORM checklist newsletter when it comes out. Obviously some of these lines are arbitrary and you may not agree with this map. However the purpose here to define the regions' geographical boundaries in clear terms that are easy to understand. It doesn't matter if you agree with that Indianapolis is in the Ohio Valley or if you think Indianapolis is actually in the Great Lakes Region. As long as you know where WxRisk places it then you can follow and understand the Snowstorm Conditions in the SHORT TERM... MEDIUM RANGE... and LONG RANGE periods
This next image shows a series of six colored coded CONDITIONS/ ALERTS which we used to distinguish possible snow fall accumulations in the SHORT TERM... MEDIUM RANGE... and LONG RANGE periods. When you click on this image it will enlarge and you will be able to see clearly the defined terms and criteria
Finally in order understand these forecast in the SHORT TERM... MEDIUM RANGE... and LONG RANGE periods... it is imperative that you understand the threshold for accumulating snow amounts in the various ALERT CONDITIONS are obviously not the same for different areas the country. If you click on this image you will clearly see the explanation in more detail.

You are of course perfectly free to read through this particular page and the web site and if you are curious you may of course send me an e-mail or post a comment and question.
